Why Pamukkale works
One ticket covers the terraces and Hierapolis; the antique pool charges separately inside. The little museum in the old bath is worth a few minutes.
Pamukkale is a UNESCO World Heritage site: white travertine terraces, the Cleopatra Pool with its sunken columns, and the Hierapolis ruins above them, all in one zone. The antique pool, the museum and the theatre sit in the same archaeological zone as the terraces.

Out of Kusadasi centre we take the ring road that meets the Selcuk highway, then the highway for the bulk of the 200 km. In season the first stretch near the coast can crawl; once on the motorway it is a steady cruise.
