Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady calls at Kuşadası five times in the port schedule we follow, between May and September 2027. Three calls arrive at 09:00 and two at 08:00, and all leave at 18:00. That is a comfortable day for two, without trying to tick off everything: one great ancient site in the morning, and a long, slow afternoon in a hillside village.
Morning: Ephesus at your own pace
Your yellow taxi drops you at the upper gate of Ephesus and waits at the lower gate. In between is a walk of about two to two and a half hours along Curetes Street, past the Temple of Hadrian, to the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre. Nobody hurries you; stop where you like. In summer go as early as the call allows and carry water.
Afternoon: Şirince without a timetable
From Ephesus the road climbs past Selçuk to Şirince, about 15 to 20 minutes from the town. The village is a cluster of old stone houses on a hillside, with steep cobbled lanes, small shops selling olive-oil soaps, and tasting shops where you can try local fruit wines. Have a long lunch on a terrace and let the afternoon go slowly. Wear shoes with grip; the cobbles are uneven.
The Temple of Artemis is on the way, a single column at the edge of Selçuk, if you want a short photo stop.
The clock, kept loose
- About 09:30 (or 08:30 on the 08:00 calls): in the taxi
- About 10:00 to 12:15: Ephesus
- About 12:30: Temple of Artemis, optional
- About 13:00 to 15:30: Şirince, lunch and a wander
- About 16:10: back at the port, ahead of the 17:00 cut-off
Leave Şirince by about 16:15 at the latest; the drive back takes roughly 35 to 40 minutes. If the all-aboard time printed on board is earlier than 17:00, work to that.

Cash and extras
The driver is paid in cash; there is no card in the taxi. Entrance fees, food and drinks, including wine tasting, are not included.
