MSC Divina arrives at 09:00 on Mondays, October 2026 and summer 2027. A yellow taxi plan that flips the usual order: hills and Şirince first, Ephesus later.
MSC Divina calls at Kuşadası on Mondays in the port schedule we follow, in October 2026 and again from June to September 2027, always from 09:00 to 18:00. A nine o'clock arrival sounds relaxed, but it puts you on the road at about 09:30, close to the hour when coach groups from the ships start filling Ephesus.
You still have a good day. Being back at the port by 17:00 leaves about seven and a half hours in a licensed yellow taxi. The question is how to spend a day that starts mid-morning.
Why the usual order struggles on a mid-morning start
Most visitors head straight for Ephesus. On a 09:00 arrival that puts you at the upper gate around 10:00, and late morning is usually when Ephesus is at its busiest. The coach groups arrive, the narrow parts of Curetes Street fill up, and the walk down to the Library of Celsus slows to the speed of the crowd. With very little shade on the site, the late-morning sun is hard to ignore.
There is nothing wrong with going anyway. If Ephesus is the only thing you care about, go first and accept the company. But with a taxi of your own, you can turn the day around.
Hills first, Ephesus in the afternoon
The idea is simple: head up into the hills and out to the village while the crowds are at Ephesus, then come back to the ancient city in the afternoon, when it is often quieter as groups return to their ships. Often, not always: some days stay busy until closing.
The turned-around plan, step by step
- 09:00 ship arrives; about 09:30 in the taxi at the port exit
- about 10:15 House of the Virgin Mary on Bülbüldağı, 30-45 minutes
- about 11:35 Şirince for an early lunch and a wander, about 1 to 1.5 hours
- about 13:15 Temple of Artemis on the edge of Selçuk, 10-20 minutes
- about 13:40 upper gate of Ephesus; walk down to the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre
- about 15:50 lower gate, driver waiting
- about 16:15 back at the port, around 45 minutes before your 17:00 return
That is all four stops in under seven hours, which is brisk: they usually need about 7.5 to 8.5 hours. If your group walks slowly or lingers over lunch, drop the Temple of Artemis first: it is a single re-erected column in a field and the easiest stop to lose.
Before you commit, check current opening hours for Ephesus on your date. The afternoon plan only works if the site stays open long enough for an unhurried walk.
If you would rather see Ephesus first
- about 10:00 upper gate of Ephesus, 2 to 2.5 hours on the site
- about 12:35 House of the Virgin Mary
- about 13:40 Temple of Artemis
- about 14:15 Şirince for a late lunch
- about 16:10 back at the port
Same stops, same time budget. You trade an early lunch for walking Ephesus at its busiest.
Agree the plan at the port exit
The driver meets you at the port exit with a name sign. Say which plan you want, which stop matters most, and whether anyone in the group walks slowly. You can change the order as you go; that is what a taxi of your own is for. If you are unsure where the exit is, here it is on Google Maps.

Port pickup for this ship is explained on our MSC Divina page.
Small things that keep a Monday smooth
- Return time: back at the port by 17:00. If the all-aboard time printed on board is earlier, that wins.
- Payment: cash to the driver; there is no card machine in the taxi.
- Not included: entrance fees, food and drinks. Fees are paid at each site.
- Dress and footing: modest clothes at the House of the Virgin Mary, where photos are not allowed inside the house; shoes with grip for the polished marble of Ephesus and the steep cobbles of Şirince.
- Booking: send the ship name, date, number of people and the plan you prefer, or start from our port to Ephesus and back booking page.
Both plans above go beyond the basic port-Ephesus-port ride: the House of the Virgin Mary, Şirince and the Temple of Artemis are added at an extra charge. Say which of them you want when you book.
